Spotted: L'Oreal Double Extend Eye Illuminator

I showed you a pic of this new mascara product from L'Oreal a while back, but the lovely Kimberly  (who just so happens to have a really cool giveaway going on over on her blog right now) just sent me some great close-ups which of course I'd love to share with you!

This is a dual-end mascara that has a traditional brush on one end (to "lengthen"), and a Telescopic Explosion brush on the other (to "illuminate"). In other words, you get a regular black mascara, and then a colored mascara that seems to be metallic in nature.

There are four different shades, one for each eye color. Here's some close-ups:

I never did get around to trying the regular Telescopic Explosion mascara. Partly because the reviews I've read over the past year or so have been pretty bad all the way around (I remember one blogger compared the brush to a  medieval weapon--I wish I could remember who made that analogy because it cracked me up!). But since this new version is strictly for applying color to the lashes (as opposed to regular mascara) maybe it might work better in that capacity? Who knows!

I'd love to hear your thoughts about this new mascara, and if you've already tried it, please leave a comment and let us know what you think!

Huge thanks, once again, to Kimberly for the awesome pics!

  1. i never tried Telescopic Explosion for the same reasons you didn't, but i LOVE metallic mascaras and i am really intrigued by this one!

i think maybe the Muse was the blogger you were thinking of? (http://www.musingsofamuse.com/2009/07/loreal-telescopic-explosion-mascara.html)

  2. I love the Double Extend mascara, but I will definitely be skipping this one. The idea of "illuminating" mascara is completely bogus to me (remember the Cover Girl Eye Lights mascara?). Plus, the "ball" brush doesn't do much for me either. Money saved!

  3. I actually LOVED the Telescopic Explosion...the unique ball shaped brush was easy to work with and allowed you to really get "in there" and cover all your lashes. I thought I was brilliant!
I think some people just couldn't wrap their mind around the different brush design!?

  4. OK, so I was very hesitant to purchase this because all the glitter, sparkle and illuminating mascaras seem to be a crock...but, I caved. I am going to post about this tomorrow/Friday...it actually does show up as some shimmer on the lashes, and quite beautifully I might add! I hadn't tried the Double Extend until now - it's not a bad mascara, but I will say, if they made the illuminating portion on it's own I'd buy it after trying this one in the set. It's definitely really metallic...much more so than the Lash Blasts or Eye Lights.

  5. I can't wait to get this mascara and try it out!! I've yet to find a "sparkly" mascara that actually shows up, so we'll see!
